Last weekend (was it last weekend? No, it wasn’t.) The weekend before last weekend I went home to Louisville. I babysat my dear little brother Lincoln. And here are some tales from our adventure:
Lincoln and I went to Goodwill. Because Goodwill has belts. As soon as we walked in two things happened:
1. Lincoln turns to me and says “Hannah. Mell.” (smell)
2. He saw the belt rack and bolted. And he was the happiest child I ever did see.
And then I got shot and had to go to the ER.
Okay not really. But I did take Linc to the science museum. Where all his dreams came true. And where I got shot many times, escaped from mummies and dinosaurs, and remembered why I’m glad I’m not in middle school anymore.
Do you remember that big mirror thing? Well it’s still there. And I thought I would still be there. Lincoln loved that thing. If he could have slipped it into his pocket like he did with that one guys iphone, it would be his. Alas, He came home with just an armful of belts.
Lincoln and I proceded to the carwash after our museum excursion
I know you can’t see it, but that bumper sticker says “I’m a stoner and I vote.” The guy turned out to be a 40 something in a nice suit with a gold wedding band. Is it his messed-up step sons ride? Did he steal the car and now he feels bad, is washing it up, and returning to owner? I wish I had answers. Really I do.
I’m pretty sure Linc’s head should have exploded because of all the fantastic fun he had in one day. Mine just about did.
That is fabulous in a face
And then I found this picture from Winter Break.
Yes, Lincoln is wrapped in Saran Wrap.
Yes, that is dear brother Ben.
Yes, Lincoln was actually excited about this activity in the beginning.
and finally Yes, this is what happens when you are the youngest of five children. Tough life kid.
This semester I have had the joy of getting to take a letterpress class. I have learned quite a bit about the age-old art.
Here are the top 3 things:
1. I praise the Lord for computers.
2. Type-setting for a letterpress will make your brain explode
3. When the print comes out it makes all the work worth it. Mostly.
My first individual project was making some valentines. I made an ampersand card because, really, who doesn’t love a good ampersand? Plus it has all the wonderful connotations of bringing together.. you & me, boy & girl, husband & wife, peanut-butter & jelly… I could go on. So that’s what I did.
I rummaged through all of the type cabinets to find the most interesting ones. Then I used the little wooden blocks (called “furniture”) to keep everything tight so that it won’t fall apart when it’s pressed.
Then you take some ink and use a brayer to apply it.
And you end up with this little beauty! I proceeded to cut all of them to size in my living room.
It got messy. As usual.
I think they turned out pretty cute.
That’s a special one for my dearest Wesley.
